"Back in the early 60's SP was looking for a less costly alternative to the Black Widow paint scheme. The came up with a very austere black and orange scheme which they tried out on the various types of power. Fans referred to it as "The Pumpkin". Here it is on the 5272 assigned to the Van Nuys local, switching the North Hollywood yard at Lankershim Boulevard. When fresh it actually did not look to bad on a switcher. However, when they applied the orange in an inverted wing design to an F, E and PA unit it proved really hideous!" - Jack Neville
