Engine Access Doors - Construction Details

I visited the Travel Town museum (located in Los Angeles, California).
As you probably know, the California Western Baldwin RS-12 #56 resides there.
A nice staff lady let me open the engine access doors and take some pics.

It appears that all the engine access doors are constructed from relatively thin sheet metal and then reinforced with channel shapes having an 'L' shaped cross-section.
