Sharon Steel Pictorial - by Kevin Tomasic

"Keith Clouse and I visited the plant for an article on the Baldwins many years ago and the slides have sat around since. I was asked to help on a book project so I dug the slides out and my friend Kevin Scanlon scanned and cleaned them up. I wanted to share them with the Baldwin group."

"I had friends at the mill who knew some guys in the mill furnace company that I worked for and they made the introductions for me. The guy that owned Sharon Steel (Victor Posner) was notably publicity shy, so it took some wangling to get in there. I was real lucky to get us in there and lucky that Dave Morgan at Trains wanted to run the article ("Big Steel, Little Baldwins" in the August 1987 issue) That was a pretty good day getting the run of the steel plant, they let us go anywhere we wanted! Trains (magazine) only used a few of Keith’s photos and I was happy slinging the words. Enjoy a long lost era....the Sharon plant is still there, owned by NLMK from Russia and there is a couple EMD switchers knocking around the rolling mill, but no iron or steel is made there."
