"Scarce As Hen's Teeth"

This is the only Baldwin diesel I remember seeing and they were "scarce as hen's teeth".

Some prints I took way back in winter 1980. Madison Mine #1 was in the former
C&O yards at Huntington, WV and, never having seen a Baldwin diesel, I almost
wrecked our company delivery truck in "rubber-necking" at this unit!
All I had was ASA 100 film in the Pentax (TM) on that day -- and it was so gloomy, too.

Note the twin-beam headlight; I don't know if this was
a standard Baldwin item or if was, say, a replacement from another engine.
No foot boards and I don't know when they were outlawed.

These two photos were taken just minutes apart:

Madison Mine #1 coupled to three C&O units, GE 8248 is coupled
directly to the switcher and being shoved westward.

The four diesels now coupled to C&O caboose C-3251.

Grab shot from the cab step to the inside, as best I could.

Some of the train crew looking at something. One guess is that
they're checking the solid bearing journal boxes for plenty of oil.

Close up of the builder's plate. As best I can determine it's 76010.
