The stationary field in- volves such a wide variety of applications, and engine types and sizes, that gen- eralizations as to features are difficult. There is a def- inite trend, however, to- ward reductions in engine size, and installation cost, by increase of speed. The adoption of lighter weight, medium speed engines is not general as yet. Prog- ress toward higher speeds, therefore, may be expected to be gradual in the heavy duty sta- tionary field. In the smaller engines for medium duty applications relatively higher speeds are becoming the rule. |
